The American Muslim League mobilizes patriotic Muslim Americans to build bridges with policymakers, countering extremism, and advance America's interests at home and abroad. AML champions a new generation of voices committed to freedom, security, and opportunity.

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, the American Muslim League recognizes the United States as the greatest country in the world, a haven that offers Muslims cherished liberties, belonging, and the freedom to pursue happiness under a constitutional government.

American society deserves a mainstream Muslim civic partner that rejects collectivist ideologies opposed to America’s founding values of individual liberty, free speech, and private enterprise. Grievance-driven narratives and ideological rigidity have sadly weakened our society, poisoned interfaith relations, and damaged the reputation of ordinary Muslims.

The American Muslim League is committed to national renewal and helping to restore the spirit of America’s original founding as an indivisible republic under God with liberty and justice for all. We emphasize loyalty, gratitude, responsibility, contribution, civility, cooperation, equality, dignity, accountability, and individuality.

New Poll on the State of Muslim Americans at America’s 250th

AML announces the releases of a new survey on Muslim American attitudes it co-commissioned. The poll results show a diverse community, ideologically pulled in multiple directions. Respondents displayed a high level of American patriotism while conversely deeply affected by overseas conflicts and sectarian divisions. Moreover, the poll revealed striking fracture lines around age, gender, and political partisanship. The resulting portrait is a complex community in flux and ideologically up for grabs. The American Muslim League (AML) is a patriotic Muslim civic organization that policymakers, leaders, and interfaith partners can engage with confidence to help mainstream American Muslims and champion our country as a unique beacon of liberty and opportunity.

AML aims to prevent American Muslim identity from being defined around foreign conflict, sectarian divisions, and victimhood grievances – instead championing proud voices committed to freedom, innovation, and the pursuit of happiness.

AML conducts polling on American Muslim realities, engages the media and policymakers with constructive policy solutions, mobilizes a vocal cohort of patriotic Muslims, and extends a hand of collaboration to all fellow Americans.

Polling & Research

AML commissions original and methodologically-sound polls to provide insights into the dynamism of the Muslim American community. We also produce public policy research on community trends, strategies for countering extremism, and effective ways to strengthen civic engagement and interfaith relations.

Policy Engagement

AML delivers policy recommendations, briefs political leaders, and provides dialogue tracks for policymakers to engage with patriotic Muslim Americans. We offer civic leaders a mainstream Muslim interlocutor for discussions on how best to advance individual liberty, free enterprise, and patriotic service.

Interfaith Convenings

AML Founding Board of Directors

Zainab Al-Suwaij serves as AML’s Executive Director and brings more than twenty years of experience in civic leadership and counter-extremism advocacy. A survivor of the 1991 uprising against Saddam Hussein, she has briefed the White House, testified to Congress, spoken at the Republican National Convention, been profiled in national media outlets like The Washington Post, trained campus leaders, and worked extensively to build healthy Muslim representation in the United States. Al-Suwaij co-founded the American Islamic Congress and its Project Nur campus initiative, led an acclaimed anti-violence community intervention initiative in Iraq, and nurtured civil rights activists across the Middle East and North Africa. Al-Suwaij’s writing has appeared in The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. The granddaughter of a prominent Shi’a cleric, she serves on the board of Freedom House and has been honored with awards from the Interreligious and International Peace Council and the National Liberty Museum.

Abdul Rahman Al-Jubouri

Abdul Rahman Al-Jubouri is an American citizen with extensive experience developing independent civil society institutions. For 12 years, he served as the National Endowment for Democracy’s Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, in addition to serving as Country Director for the National Democratic Institute. In these roles, Al-Jubouri supervised the establishment and support for hundreds of civil society organizations. A former senior fellow at the Regional Studies Center at the American University of Iraq, he has provided consultation to Congress and U.S. government agencies. Al-Jubouri is frequently interviewed as an expert on international news stations and currently heads the Academy for Political Development and Good Governance.

Nabaa Abdulokhwa

Nabaa Abdulokhwa is DDS candidate at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and serves as a leader within the American Student Dental Association. An immigrant to America from the cradle of civilization in Babylon, she has a deep appreciation for both her native homeland’s ancient heritage and her adopted homeland’s foundational values of liberty. Abdulokhwa cherishes the Fourth of July as a holiday that represents freedom, unity, and the unique opportunities America has provided her. She co-founded the American Muslim League to help promote how core Muslim values align with the ideals of American society.
